About us

Hi! I’m Joy and I love finding new and inspiring places to visit in the UK.  Not only that but I love researching and planning our UK trips to wring as much value as possible from the time we have available.  Amongst my family and friends I am the organiser!  Everyone looks to me to find and organise somewhere different to go on a day trip, long weekend or holiday.

Would you also like my help?  Are you looking for inspiration about where to go on your next trip?  Or perhaps you want to find out how to beat the crowds or have the confidence to venture further afield?  If so this blog is for you!

Jumping over a river about us days out UK

How can I help you?

I research and visit incredible places that the UK has to offer from coast to country, cities to landscapes, day trips, weekends, road trips and everything in between.  I do the research so you don’t have to.  I write in depth guides and provide answers to commonly asked questions such as when is the best time to visit, how do I get there, where should I stay?

Why me?

I have spent my whole life doing this somehow or other.  I’ve always holidayed in the UK.  As a child, even if we weren’t on holiday, we would visit new places, learning about the unique history we are blessed with in the UK, our fascinating industrial heritage, or our awe inspiring landscapes and nature.

I have grown up obsessed by maps and will pour over a map for hours intrigued by the shapes of our coastline, quirky place names, and new places to visit.

My work has always been research and admin based and so I have huge experience in collating various sources of information and planning itineraries.

Why Skylarks and Seagulls?

Because they are both beautiful characterisations of the places that they live.  My home is in the countryside but the coast (as rugged as possible please) draws me like a magnet.  I love being beside the sea.  Both the coast and country make me feel free and at one with nature.  Skylarks are some of the earliest signs of spring as they flutter up from the fields, high, high, high in the sky producing an uplifting, rolling song as they go.  Seagulls just soar, endlessly, with seemingly no effort, along our cliffs and their calls just evoke an instant feel good factor of being by the sea.

So what can I help you with?
